Mummies of insects

Mummies!

Let's look for mummies of insects!

What you can learn from this activity: Have a fun experience of playing and searching around in a natural field by looking for dead insects left by shrikes.

When and where to do: December to February at anyplace where shrike birds live.

Materials and preparations:

Prepared by participants: pencil, magnifying lens,

Equipment by coordinator: large map of field, large papaer, measure, TV monitor, digital camera, leaflet, questionnaire, first aid box, trash bag, ink pens.

Procedure: 1. Introduction of mummies and insects caught by shrikes. 2. Go out for searching mummies of insects. 3. Record findings and take pictures of mummies. 4. After comming back, put dots where you find mummies, and write what you found in the large paper. 5. Share what you found with friends by watching at digital pictures in TV monitor. 6. Write down whatever you found interesting.

Do you know mummies? It was made around in 3000 years ago.

  

To prevent from deterioration, dried mummies were made. There are many mummie-like insects in the field!
